Ethical Disclaimers - What Torsion Cannot Offer
Since I’m not interested in aggressively monetizing this quarter, and since I am differently abled with no fame or fortune to my name, I cannot offer you money to contribute to this newsletter.
Like most Editors and people, I really hope to do that one day, but only as part of the product’s roadmap and if it makes sense. If you need a paid gig, which is so valid and you deserve one, this isn’t it as of today.
I can and will write Torsion myself if needed, even though my writing isn’t always the best. Running lean like that means that I can get this Newsletter started. If I could pay every talented writer 20% above their rate I would. Sadly, I am poor and recovering from surgery, so I can barely keep myself afloat.
I also cannot offer opportunities to jerks or time wasters. Okay, the better word is will not. Torsion cannot offer it, because its Editor will not offer it. Please be respectful. Abuse is not tolerated in this newsletter, not even in an application to contribute to it.
What Torsion Can Offer
Here is how I think I can help contributors this quarter. If you want to contribute and we decide it is a mutual fit:
I can be a portfolio reference. I tend to provide lots of references for people throughout the year and have gotten the feedback that I’m a good one.
I can and will share your preferred social media on my preferred social media. I will write the post with you so that it says what helps your brand, provided I feel I can actually speak to your abilities.
I will keep you in my network as a talented contributor and if you need something you can ask me for it. We can schedule time together and I’ll help you every way I can. Because if you’re the kind of person that cares about healthcare advocacy, then you’re the kind of person I want to see succeed in the world, and if you’ve seen my work before you’ll know that’s something I care about.
If all of that or some of that sounds great and you want to move forward, then more details are below.
If You Still Want to Contribute
You have to sign a contract and read the Newsletter’s terms and conditions. I’m sorry, I know most people hate that. Someone once told me it’s the fastest way to kill their excitement on a project. But I can’t actually run an ethical newsletter without following ethics, laws, and procedures, and I can’t actually feel good about accepting your work if we haven’t assessed mutual fit.
I wouldn’t be a very good editor if I didn’t put my Juris Doctor to use to protect the Newsletter from completely avoidable lawsuits as far as its in my power to do so.
And I wouldn’t actually be advocating for anything at all if I didn’t walk the walk, and say truthfully, you should always be looking at and signing these things and if a client has ever accepted your work without discussing a contract with you in the United States then they may be well meaning but they didn’t necessarily do right by you.
The world is full of that exact problem and I’m uninterested in perpetuating that, the same way Torsion is trying to stop misinformation and alienation on rare diseases and the human experience.
This is how I live my newsletter’s values. It’s brand trust but it’s also ‘look myself in the mirror and be okay with who I am’ trust, so if you want to contribute to this, then that’s what it takes.
There are lots of other places that won’t ask or even check, and I do believe you are talented because many artists are talented, so if this isn’t a good fit that is okay, it’s your right to not have to continue and I respect it and don’t think less of you.

How You Can Support Torsion Even If It’s Not The Right Fit
Share it, introduce it, like/comment/share. Probably other social media things I don’t actually know about because I’m not an expert on Social Media. But at its basic, just putting it in front of people is enough for right now.
